WHY MALAYSIA? WHY KUALA LUMPUR?

The melting pot of cultures, amazing food and year-round sunshine beckons you to visit friends old and new. Kuala Lumpur is one of most affordable countries to visit, with many unique things to do. Boasting some of the World’s most gorgeous beaches and islands with World Class hotel and resorts, to the cooling climes of Cameron Highlands to the smorgasbord of tastes in Kuala Lumpur to Penang, there is something for everyone from Petaling Street Chinatown to the up market Pavilion Shopping Centre, that’s just a taste of what is available here. Malaysia was voted one of the top 5 retirement destinations in 2015 due to its low cost of living yet providing world class medical and infrastructure.

Kuala Lumpur is the Capital City of Malaysia with almost 1.6 million residents and another 5.5 million in the surrounding state of Selangor, there is as much daily activity as there are people.

TRAVEL, DATES & FLIGHT INFO

Vince, your host, will help anyone coming advise the perfect departure and return dates.

Travel Dates: We advise you leave for Malaysia in the second week of August (week of 8th August) to acclimatise and to get over any jet-lag especially if you are flying from West to East.

You will lose a day due to the time zone difference. Kuala Lumpur is in the same time zone as Perth, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong. For many first timers flying out here, please get some melatonin tablets to help you ease over any jet-lag you may experience.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (K.L.I.A.) is simple to navigate and provide the Sentral Express train (www.kliaekspres.com) to get to the city which is the quickest and one of the most inexpensive ways to get really close to the hotel and gym.

The Sentral Express Train provides on-board free WiFi alternatively you can get a budget or premier taxi at the arrival lobby or pre-arrange for an airport transfer by car if you prefer online (www.airportlimo.my) and also by airport transfer bus if you are travelling on a tight budget. All information is clearly provided at the airport or you can check at the information desk.

Departure: You can leave from KLIA or stay longer in Kuala Lumpur or other parts of the country (we will be happy to help you arrange longer stay). Suggested places to visit: Islands of Malaysia .

ACCOMMODATIONS, TRANSPORTATION & FOOD

There are many options to stay in Kuala Lumpur. The link I have provided for AirBnB will give you some $credit towards your future booking. Please use the search words “Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur” for your AirBnB destination. Personally, I prefer AirBnB especially those equipped with a washing machine! With sweaty gym clothes and shopping to be done, I want to have clean training gear daily and an empty suitcase for shopping so I don’t have to bring a lot of clothes. Also as local traffic conditions are unpredictable and can be severe, it is best to stay nearby to be on time for the training sessions along Jalan Maarof or in the vicinity of Bangsar.

Update (April 2017) Staying near the gym will also give you access (walking distance) to Bangsar LRT train into the city and sights. In AirBnB search for Bangsar or Bangsar Utama.

Please bear in mind that electricity in Malaysia is 220~240V and the wall socket/power plug is the 3 pin UK standard when you plan to bring your electronic devices for charging.
I believe the USA phones may not work here due to different network frequencies. It may be best to get a local SIM card at the airport on arrival or in the shopping mall (passport is required for the purchase for visitors).

Food options are plentiful from local, Western and vegetarian. Your only problem is finding the space to fit it all in. Malaysia is famous for its Nasi Lemak, Satay, curries and Chinese cuisines.

TOP TIP: Allow for a couple of days to acclimatise to the local humidity, heat and time difference. Being sufficiently rested will make a huge difference to your athletic performance especially if you’re here for trainer assessment. Stay hydrated at all times. Best to drink bottled water, isotonic drinks and fresh coconut water (widely available)

EXPLORATION & FUN SCHEDULE

As locals we know our way around and are more than happy to point you in the right direction.

Much of your visit will be to enjoy the unique landscape that is Kuala Lumpur and it’s local attractions.

A large feature will revolve around local cuisine and shopping and much, much more.

While you are also free to do as you please, know that you are in a large city and while most people speak English it is best to check with any of our local team to let someone know where you plan to go for the day.

As with any large city, there are good spots and not so good spots to be in. If unsure, check first.

PRIVATE TRAINING AVAILABLE DURING THE ATC. SEE BELOW FOR MORE DETAILS
We just ended the 3-day training camp; feeling a little fatigued and some muscle sores. But it was a great experience being able to train and spar with various trainer and seniors across different levels that are way above me. It was a lot of fun being inspired in a non-judgemental environment with plenty of opportunities to learn to be better. Til next year! #cmdbangsar #cmd #atc2016 My big and sincere thanks to Rodney King, Vince Choo, James Woodfield-jones, Eric J Kolesar, Jax Murray, Patrick Roger Wei-Min Pincon, Afifter Saw, Farrah Yong Sue Fen, Azman Bin Othman Luk, Chris Siaw, Ashley Imai, Johann Wan Malik, KenJi KeizerKK Ng (ATC 2016)
Digesting and indulging like an all you can eat buffet, taking in on what was shown, taught and the humbleness of each individual. Not knowing what I was about to endure but so worth on making the red eye flight and bracing the humidity in my thermal gear (grin). Now walking out with a different cap, a different smile, a little (P)hatter and adapting with a different head space. The touch of knowledge, life skills, coaching in such a short time as given us some new tools to play with and adapt to. I have taken not just the physical play but more so the mental and knowledge game. Thank You to everybody who I’ve met, rolled, sparred, tickled and back flipped with…Thank You… A first timer (ATC), great group from all abroad and a million plus one Thank You to Rodney, James, Eric, Vince, KateKenJi Keizer (ATC 2016)
I wanted to post this last night after I arrived home. Thank you very much Vince Choo for organising the ATC. Thank you very much Rodney King and James Woodfield-jones for the valuable jiujitsu concepts lessons. Thank you very much Eric J Kolesar for guiding me during the partner drills. I am going to use what i learned from the ATC in my next jits training session. I Hope to be able to come again next year.Nazim (ATC 2016)
