Hi and welcome to the CMD Malaysia family,

Welcome handshake

Here’s your welcome pack that outlines the program features and your training course:

FizFit and Kettlebell members

Monthly subscriptions include all FizFit and Kettlebell classes with unlimited attendance. You only need to decide which class you are interested in or do them all depending on how fit you feel! Not to worry though, some of the classes are designed to teach you the correct form and techniques while allowing you time to build on your fitness level and provide time to practice the techniques.

What are the differences between the FizFit or Kettlebell levels?

FizFit Foundation Skills & Level 1

FizFitWorkout

If you are new or returning to exercise after more than a 12 month layoff please join the FizFit Foundation Skills class in addition to Level 1 class.

The FizFit Foundation Skills classes are here to help you learn the safe and correct form for the workout classes that you will use to build your fitness, strength and endurance.

When you are ready, you can take the Physical Fitness Test (refer to the attachment) which will be offered every 3 months during the calendar year. Don’t worry if you cannot complete the test on the first attempt. Depending on your fitness level some people will take 6 months while others may take 18 months to prepare and pass the test. Even if you don’t pass, it’s not the end of the world but use it as a milestone to see how much you have improved over time.

FizFit Level 2

These sessions will build on more challenging, complex and require higher skills to let you push yourself to higher fitness goals while keeping the workouts fun and challenging.

The pre-requisite to attempt this test is to a successful pass of Level 1 Physical Fitness Test and a minimum of 6 months of Level 2 classes.

While the Level 2 Physical Fitness test is based on the same skill set of Level 1 Test, it will require a higher fitness capacity, higher endurance and stamina to complete it successfully. A higher adherence to correct form along with consistency are key to a successful test attempt.

Kettlebell Training

kettlebellTraining

Kettlebell lifting is a technical yet highly rewarding way to include resistance training to your fitness regime. As the movements are based on a circular pattern, they have direct benefits towards strengthening your joints, connective tissue, and cardio-vascular health. As proven over time, kettlebell training serves as an important and effective tool to have an overall positive impact to your health and wellness if performed correctly.

Instead of training for the sake of learning a few lifting techniques haphazardly, our curriculum is based on that of an international and recognised kettlebell trainer certification requirements. This allows you to focus on the main kettlebell lifting techniques and more importantly to lift and improve at your own pace while focusing on the objective. Using this format we have successfully trained many clients to a high level of kettlebell lifting competency and they can easily spot and correct lifting techniques. In other words, if they were taught a wrong or dangerous technique, they would quickly be able to discern between what is a safe lifting technique or not for them.
We teach the kettlebell progression in 3 modules:

  1. Beginners: All kettlebell techniques that do not require the kettlebell to be lifted above the shoulders. A minimum of 15 beginners classes must be completed before being invited to the next progression.
  2. Intermediate: Single kettlebell techniques that require the kettlebell to be lifted above the shoulders. All the Classic Kettlebell lifts will be taught. At the completion of the Intermediate training, the candidate may elect when they are ready to attempt the Physical Fitness Test.
  3. Advanced: Double kettlebell techniques are taught. At the completion of the training, the candidate may elect when they are ready to attempt the Physical Fitness Test for the Advanced Level.
  4. Kettlebell Juggling. A phenomenal way to build confidence, coordination, grip strength, mental focus and more! Probably the most challenging yet fun aspect of kettlebell lifting, kettlebell juggling is a rewarding and enriching way to build or maintain your fitness. There is no fitness test for this module.

We have limited kettlebells for sale so you can practice at home or during the holidays. Please check with the front desk for availability.

For CMD Boxing and Monkey Jits members

Welcome to the most positive martial arts experience in Malaysia!

What sets Crazy Monkey Defense Program apart from the other similar programs are a healthy philosophy combined with a functional (read: effective) martial art and a family-like community that is non-judgemental and supportive. We do not emphasise on martial arts competitions nor any form of competition. Rather, we recognised that competitions can be internalised in the form of a personal challenge to help you become better today compared with who you were yesterday. Naturally, if your ambition is to take part in competitions then perhaps we may not be the suitable gym for your and we will be more than happy to recommend our friends who provides that type of training. However, if you are a working professional who wants to get in shape, have fun learning effective martial arts and look to this method as a means of self-improvement and personal growth then you’ve found the right place.

Things to know

Based on the frequency of classes you signed up for (2, 3, or 4 classes a week) you can decide on whether to concentrate on just the CMD Boxing, or Monkey Jits or do a bit of both. It’s your choice. Also, with the exception of the Bare Bones subscription package, a free FizFit or Kettlebell class and Open Mat training session is included in your subscription once a week. Be sure to take advantage of these free and rewarding sessions.

CMD Boxing

CMDBoxing

We keep a progression track record of your classes and the emphasis for Performance Ranks via Glove recognition is something to work towards and to maintain. Boxing is a perishable skill and once you’ve been to a few classes you will be familiarized with the term “4-Drivers”. Learn them and do them well and you’ll have a jolly time!

You will learn how to box via play drills and progressive, limited sparring. The desired outcome is for you to feel confident that you are able to effectively protect yourself and your loved ones when your personal safety is threatened or compromised.

Your progress is based on your ability to perform specific tasks with skill. Skill markers are recognised by the awarding of colour gloves (White, Blue, Purple, Bronze, Silver and Gold) with each glove carrying a maximum of 3 laces each. Advancement largely depends on frequency of class attendance, ability to recall and perform the techniques without verbal or physical prompting by the coach under stress and pressure from a resisting training partner.

We sell most, if not, all the needed training equipment at the gym. They are branded with our CMD logo and have been designed in-house for our specific type of training. Please check with the front desk for the availability of boxing and MMA gloves, shin pads, mouth guards, training shirts and shorts.

Monkey Jits

MonkeyJits

Our program is based on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu where the focus was first and foremost that all martial arts were created to address the need to protect yourself. BJJ is unique in that it was refined by a smaller, lighter man using technique to overcome a stronger and larger adversary.

You will receive your progress report card (a PDF format document) via email at the beginning of each month or quarter (depending on your subscription level).

There are no belt-testing fees in our program. You will be required to purchase your own belt if you received a belt upgrade.

The honorific title for the role of a black belt instructor is professor in Portuguese, but Coach is fine. Just as calling me by name is fine too.

The Monkey Jits program derives its techniques from this instructor: Professor Rodney King, 3rd Degree Black Belt. His teacher is Master Rigan Machado, 8th Degree Coral Belt. Your classes will be conducted by Professor Vince Choo, Black Belt.

The emphasis for the initial 12 to 24 months of your training leading up to Blue Belt will be on self defense, followed by the sportive aspects to help you understand the timing and movements required to master the same techniques.

Your progress is based on your ability to perform specific tasks with skill and control. Skill markers are recognised by the awarding of colour belts (Blue, Purple, Brown and Black) with each belt carrying a maximum of 4 stripes each. Advancement largely depends on frequency of class attendance, ability to recall and perform the techniques without verbal or physical prompting by the coach under stress and pressure from a resisting training partner. Your progress is continuously assessed in every class that you attend.
